Handouts
As a teacher, one of the main tools used are handouts. Even with the advances in technology, handouts are still used to assist students in their learning process. Below are some examples of handouts that can be created to aid students' learning.
The True Story of "Bloody Mary" DRTA
This handout is a reading passage on Queen Mary I of England. However, as the student completes the reading there are questions for them to answer along the way. Within the reading there are stop signs and then questions. As the student reads the passage, they stop at the stop signs and then answer the questions for that section. This creates reading with a purpose for the student and a way to help the student remember the key information better.

Bulletin Board Dash
The Bulletin Board Dash is a strategy that I have made up in order to help teach students vocabulary using contextual clues. In this strategy the students are broken up into small groups and given a reading passage with bolded vocabulary words. The group must complete the passage then dash to the bulletin board. On the bulletin board there will be a chart with the vocabulary words and a pocket with definitions. The students must match the correct definition to the right word (the words and definitions are attached by Velcro strips) by using contextual clues in the passage. Then the students must summarize the passage in one sentence under their group's vocabulary chart. The first group done will receive a prize!

Research Paper Outline
Writing has become an important part of the curriculum, however, some students get lost or are unsure how to tackle large papers. Below are three separate outlines and a graphic organizer in order to help students tackle research and outline their research paper. The graphic organizer can be used for any subject and the outlines help the students to outline an essay on hurricanes, an essay on meteorology, an essay on Hammurabi's Code and an essay on Supreme Court Cases dealing with Civil Rights.
Research Paper Graphic Organizer
This organizer allows students to document their sources and supply facts for a paragraph. Once they have all of the research for that paragraph it allows them to summarize their findings, which will help them complete the outline and their rough draft.

Review Sheets
As teachers one of the main forms of reviewing we will do with the class will incorporate Review Sheets. Review sheets help us to summarize and highlight key information from the unit in order to prepare students for an upcoming evaluation, normally a test or quiz. Below are a list of Review Sheets I have created.
Study Skills
As a teacher, it is important to teach your students specific study skills in order to attain success in the classroom and in life. One way to do this is to compile a worksheet on study skills to handout to the students on the first day of class. The sheet should list some study skill and then reasons as to why these skills are important. This handout can also reach out to parents and get them involved in their children's education.

Europeans Compete for Colonial Emperors (1492-1610)
This review sheet highlights major vocabulary used in the unit. The review sheet also asks students to identify social structures and label new colonies and their capitals on a map. The main topics in this unit were the Spanish exploration of Central and South America and an introduction to the English colonies in North America.
